Product Description
Marked with makers name "Curlex" /|\ and dated 1973. Good used condition. This strap is shown in the Australian 1979 Training Pamphlet as the carrying sling for the L4A4 Bren. I think someone in the Army got their slings and straps mixed up and thought this 1 inch wide strap with very lightweight spring hooks (same ones as used the Vietnam P1956 "H" equipment suspenders & basic pouches) was for the gun. The NATIONAL STOCK NUMBER (NSN) for the strap is 8465-66-040-0232 Sling, Carrying, Ammunition. The category prefix 8465 if for Individual Equipment whereas the category prefix for weapons, parts and accessories is 1005. I believe this strap to be for the Australian issue pouches that take two 30rd mags each for L2A1 Heavy barrel SLR and L4 7.62mm Bren. These straps were with the pouches when purchased direct from Australian Govt surplus sales many years ago. Appears to be used to attach the hooks to the pouches "D" rings to carry and/or secure them from movement. Welcome any suggestions on this. See "Saddle Up" by Landers page 92
