This canvas cover was made in 1945 in Australia but does NOT fit the standard SMLE No.1 Mk3 303 rifle. It is believed to have been made in anticipation of the introduction of the Australian No.6 Jungle Carbine or the Experimental Shortened & Lightened No.1 Rifle. Unissued condition with some very slight long term storage marks. Marked "M.H. & Co -1945 " (Michaelis Hallenstein & Co) and with the D /|\ D Australian service markings.
